Warmth that arrives with the furniture

A modern villa above Lugano, where the architecture was already set: board-marked concrete outside, concrete floors within. Our work was the interior and its furniture, and the brief was the contrast.

Against the grey we set Italian pieces chosen for their surfaces — a sideboard faceted in bronze, a marble table under a cluster of smoked-glass globes, copper vases, quilted white leather — so the warmth arrives with the furniture rather than being applied to the walls. The kitchen island is placed so whoever cooks faces the mountains, and the pool runs the length of the lawn.
